IBPS: Clerical Information and Prerequisites

IBPS is an autonomous entity well registered under Societies Registration Act 1860 and a Public Trust under Bombay Public Trust Act 1950 has been authorized by IBA and has received a compulsion from the 19 Public Sector Banks quoted below to organise the Common Written Examination.

A Common Written Examination also known as CWE will be held by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) as a pre-requisite for the selection of personnel for Clerical cadre posts in the Public Sector Banks, which are stated below:

Examination will be conducted with an interval of 6 months and the Scores so obtained will remain valid for one years from the issue of score card.

The Common Examination system for recruitment of for selection of personnel for Clerical cadre posts in the Public Sector Banks quoted below has been approved by each of the 19 participating Public Sector Banks and the Managing Committee of the Indian Banks'Association (IBA) with the permission of the Government of India.

Crucial Steps in the Recruitment Process

A deserving individual who wishes to join any of the above Public Sector Banks as a Probationary Officer or Management Trainee will need to be required to take the CWE.

After the completion of the examination, successful candidates will be given their mark sheets and it remains valid for one year.

Each participating Public Sector Bank will then issue a separate recruitment notification, with mentioning properly their vacancies and stipulating the eligibility criteria in terms of-

  • age.
  • educational qualification.
  • experience (if any).
  • Minimum required level of IBPS marks in every component test plus Total Weighted Score (if any) etc.

The CWE Successful candidates who have been issued their scorecards and who fulfiled the stipulated eligibility criteria will then need to apply in the participating banks of their choice and can give their personal information and respective CWE scores.

The candidates will be individually shortlisted by the banks and further carry out their own selection processes mainly Group Discussions and Interviews etc for the final selection.

Note: As clerical cadre recruitment would be on State-wise basis, candidates can apply for vacancies in one State/UT only. It will therefore be necessary that candidates appear for examination in one of the centres of a particular State/UT where they would like to apply for employment.

Eligibility

Eligibility for IBPS-PO CWE is same that for recruitment as PO in public sectors commercial banks. Which can be summarized as below:

Age

The minimum age of the candidates must be 18 years and maximum age would be 28 years for General Category candidates. However, There is relaxation in upper age limit in case of the reserved category candidates as stated below-

  • For Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe relaxation of 5 years.
  • For Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) relaxation of 3 years.

Educational Qualification

Pass with atleast 60% marks in the aggregate in Matriculation/SSC (old pattern)/SSLC/10th std. Examination of 10 + 2 + 3 pattern or similar. For SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EXSM candidates a pass in the aggregate in Matriculation/SSC (old pattern)/SSLC/10th std. Examination of 10 + 2 + 3 pattern.

OR pass with atleast 50% marks in HSC examination of 10 + 2 (10 + 2 + 3 pattern)/11th Std. Of (11 + 1 + 3) pattern or Intermediate/Pre-University or any similar examination/Diploma in Banking recognized by Central or State Government or U. T. Administration. For SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EXSM candidates a pass in HSC examination of 10 + 2 (10 + 2 + 3 pattern)/11th Std. Of (11 + 1 + 3) pattern or Intermediate/Pre-University or any similar examination/Diploma in Banking recognized by Central or State Government or UT administration.

OR A certified degree in any stream from a reputed University or any similar qualification recognized as by the Central Government.

The Summary of eligibility procedure is the one with graduation degree is well eligible for IBPS Clerk examination.
