CSIR New Pattern June 2011 Onwards

CSIR-CBSE UGC NET Exam for science stream is organised by CSIR two times in a year in the months of June and December in the subjects stated below:

  • Chemical Sciences
  • Earth Sciences
  • Life Sciences
  • Mathematical Sciences
  • Physical Sciences

There has been an introduction to Single Paper Multiple Choice Question based test from June 2011 exam. Single Paper MCQ test paper pattern shall be quoted as follows:

  • A single paper test consisting of multiple choice questions will comprise of maximum 200 marks is categorised into 3 parts namely A, B & C organised with the time duration of 3 hours.

Highlights of the New Pattern

  1. Part-A will comprise of 20 questions and is common to all the subjects. The candidate needs to answer any of the 15 questions. Each correct answer is awarded with 2 marks. The aggregate marks allocated to this section shall be 30 out of 200. This part aims to test the general scientific awareness, quantitative reasoning, analysis and research aptitude. There is no syllabus suggested for this. However, one who has strong aptitude towards science and technology can easily solve the following part.
  2. Part-B will comprise of 50 multiple choice questions generally covering the topics given in the syllabus. A candidate needs to answer any 35 questions and each correct answer is awarded with 2 marks. The aggregate marks allocated to this section shall be 70 out of 200. The standards of these questions from this section may range from 10 + 2 to PG level in chemistry subject.
  3. Part-C will comprise of 75 questions. A candidate needs to answer any 25 questions, each carrying 4 marks. The maximum marks allocated to this section is 100 out of 200. The questions shall be of analytical nature where a candidate is expected to apply the scientific knowledge in chemistry to arrive at the solution to the given problem.
  4. The cutoff marks for the December 2011 chemical sciences paper are mentioned below. Please Note that-these are in the form of percentages. Candidates have to score atleast 90 marks out of 200 to get JRF, if you belong to the category of General or OBC.
