24th December observed as National Consumer Day across India [ Current Affairs ]
24th December is being observed as National Consumer Day across the India. It is celebrated to remember that the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 had received the approval of the President on this day. In the country representation of this Act was considered as a historic milestone in the consumer movement.
The main objective of this Act is to provide consumers with effective protections against different types of corruption such as
- Defective goods
- Unsatisfactory services
- Unfair trade practices
This day offers a chance for individuals to highpoint the importance of the customer measure and the need to make every consumer more aware of their rights and responsibilities.
It should be also noted that every year 15th March is observed as World Consumer Rights Day.
Some facts about Consumer Protection Act, 1986
It offers consumers with speedy and low-cost redressed complaints mechanism and specific relief or award of reparation.
It identifies six of the eight rights of the consumer as provided in the UN charter.
