About China’s rocket launch: China launched its first satellite, which was known as Dong Fang Hong 1 into Earth orbit on its Long March space rocket on April 24, 1970 by this china became the fifth nation to achieve independent launch capability.

Recently developed by China

  • The Long March rocket entered the international market in 1990.
  • China’s first astronaut carried into the space with launching of the Shenzhou 5 spacecraft of the Long March 2F rocket On October 15, 2003 by this China became the third nation to send a person in space independently, after the Soviet Union/Russia and the United States.
  • After that Long March 2F launched the Shenzhou 6 with two astronauts on October 12, 2005.
  • The Long March 3A successfully launched the “Chang’e 1” lunar orbiting spacecraft from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center on October 24, 2007.
  • A Long March 2F launched Shenzhou 7 , it was China’s first three-man mission and first EVA mission on September 25, 2008.
  • A Long March 2F, launched Shenzhou 10 from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center and put three astronauts into orbit on June 11, 2013.
  • Recently, China has successfully tested the power system of Long March-5, which is a fifth generation of China’s Long March family of rockets.

Facts about Long March- 5th Generation

  • Long March-5 can carry the capacity of twice of the payload compared to other present carriers of China which is 25000 kg LEO (Low Earth Orbit) and 14000 kg GTO (Geostationary Transfer Orbit).
  • Long March-5 is scheduled for flight in 2016 and its capacity will be equivalent to that of ordinary carrier rockets presently used around the world.
