Graphene the wonder material [ Current Affairs ]

()

Graphene is a form of carbon also known as the wonder material. It is the strongest and the thinnest material that exists on earth. The power to conduct electricity and heat is great for graphene. It is also pliable. It has been discovered nearly a decade ago, but is now gaining news popularity after 2010 when two p

hysicists at the University of Manchester were awarded the Nobel Prize for this. It can now be produced even commercially.

Graphene was discovered to be 200 times stronger than steel and so thin that a single ounce of it could cover 28 football fields. Scientists from China have created a graphene aerogel, an ultralight material derived from a gel, that is 1/7th the weight of air and one cubic inch of the material could balance on one blade of grass.

The most recent step in the graphene research was taken by

Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology and Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea, where Samsung had discovered how to create high-quality graphene on silicon wafers, which could be used for the production of graphene transistors. These advancements could start the move to new "flexible displays, wearables and other next-generation electronic devices."
