India sets two Guinness world records on International Yoga Day June 22, 2015 [ Current Affairs ]
India has set two Guinness world records (GWR) in Rajpath yoga event held on 21 June, the eve of first International Yoga Day led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union AYUSH Minister Shripad Yesso Naik was received award from representatives of Guinness World Records. This record won’t appear on the GWR book till September 2016 as the deadline for this year’s book has passed.
These two records are –
- 35,985 people had participated in largest yoga demonstration at a single venue i.e. Rajpath yoga event.
- People of 84 nationalities performed yoga at one place.
In International Yoga Day, all participants of all ages had performed various yoga exercises on the entire two-km stretch from Rafi Marg crossing near Vijay Chowk to India Gate. On 19 November 2005, this mass yoga event has broken previous world record on mass yoga exercise which was set by 29,973 students from 362 schools led by Vivekananda Kendra at Jiwaji University Gwalior. They had performed a sequence of yogic kriyas for surya namaskar simultaneously for 18 minutes.
