About Kayyara Kinhanna: Eminent Kannada poet and freedom fighter Kayyara Kinhanna Rai passed away at Badiyadkka of Kerala at age 101. Kayyara Kinhanna Rai born on 8 June 1915. He was an Indian independence activist, author, poet and journalist.

Eminent poet and freedom fighter

  1. Rai first learned Kannada in school. Then he published his first handwritten journal Susheela at the age of 12.
  2. He was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and also participated in the freedom movement of India.
  3. He started his career as a secondary school teacher.
  4. He also had worked in newspapers like Swabhimana, Madras Mail and The Hindu.
  5. His famous poems are Shreemukha, Aikyagana, Punarvana, Chethana and Koraga.
  6. His other important works are Malayala Sahitya Charithre which is a translation of an original work by P. K. Parameshwaran Nair and Sahithya Drushti.

His achievements:

  1. He received the National Award for Best Teacher in 1969.
  2. He was conferred an honorary doctorate by Mangalore University in 2005.
  3. He also chaired the 66th Akhila Kannada Sahitya Sammelana which was Kannada Literature Conference held at Mangalore.
