Veteran Journalist Praful Bidwai passed away [ Current Affairs ]


Praful Bidwai who was veteran journalist, columnist and peace activist passed away in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He was 65 years old. Praful Bidwai was born in Nagpur. Praful Bidwai worked in the Times of India for many years as a Senior Assistant Editor before embarking on a freelance career that made his byline a household name across India.

  • Praful Bidwai had also several books, including South Asia on a Short Fuse: Nuclear Politics and the Future of Global Disarmament in 1999, New Nukes: India, Pakistan and Global Nuclear Disarmament (co-authored with Achin Vanaik) in 2002 and the Politics of Climate Change and Global Crisis: Mortgaging Our Future in 2012.
  • Bidwai also wrote a regular column for Frontline and Hindustan Times for several years. He had also served as a member of the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR), the Central Advisory Board on Education (CABE) and the National Book Trust (NBT).
  • Bidwai and Vanaik were awarded the Sean McBride International Peace Prize by the International Peace Bureau in recognition of their work opposing nuclear weapons development in South Asia in 2000.
  • Bidwai completed long-time Fellow of the Transnational Institute, the Amsterdam-based organization of international scholar-activists including Susan George and Walden Bello.
