2015 Saraswati Samman Will Be Honored to Dogri Poetess Padma Sachdev [ Current Affairs ]


The prestigious Saraswati Samman for the year 2015 will be honored to Dogri Poetess and novelist Padma Sachdev (76) for her autobiography ‘Chitt-Chete’ written in Dogri language and published in 2007.

  • Ms. Sachdev has included some historic photographs with dignitaries from her state, nation and the world in her 662-page autobiography.
  • The jury presided by former Chief Justice AS Anand from 22 works in as many languages published between the years 2005 - 2014 has selected her work.

About Padma Sachdev:

  • Padma Sachdev is first modern woman poet of Dogri language and writes in Hindi.
  • She has published her several poetry collection and has 60 books at her credit.
  • Some of her famous books are:

  2. Nheriyan Galiyan (1982)
  3. Pota Pota Nimbal (1987)
  4. Uttar Vahini (1992)
  5. Tainthian (1992)
  • Awards and Honours:
  1. The Sahitya Akademi Award in 1971 for her poetry collection Meri Kavita Mere Geet (My Poems, My Songs).
  2. Padma Shri in 2001.
  3. The Kabir Samman for poetry in 2007 - 08 by Government of Madhya Pradesh.

About Saraswati Samman

  • Saraswati Samman is a yearly award conferred upon Indian citizen for their exceptional literary work written in any Indian language declared in Schedule VIII of Constitution and published during last 10 years.
  • It was established in 1991 by the K. K. Birla Foundation and named after an Indian goddess of learning and is considered to be among the highest literary awards in India.
  • Award Carries a Monetary award of 15 lakh rupees, a citation and a plaque.
  • Well-known Hindi author Harivansh Rai Bachchan was the first recipient of this award for his biography in four volumes.
