2016 Junior Hockey World Cup Will Be Hosted by Lucknow [ Current Affairs ]

The 2016 Junior Men’s hockey World Cup is being hosted by Lucknow city of Uttar Pradesh as announcement made by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) from 8th to 18th December 2016.

  • The eleven-daylong event and 16 teams will participate in this cup including defending champions Germany, Australia, Argentina, Belgium, Austria, Canada, Egypt, India, England, Japan, Korea, South Africa, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan and Spain.
  • In addition from November 24 and December 4, 2016 Women’s Hockey Junior World Cup will take place shortly beforehand in Santiago, Chile. India will not be part of that event.

About Hockey Junior World Cup

  • It is a global field hockey competition organized by the FIH.
  • The tournament was started in 1979.
  • It held every four years since 1985.
  • Contestants must be under the age of 21.
  • This cup has been won for six times by Germany and India, Australia, Argentina and Pakistan have each won the tournament once.
