Boutros Boutros-Ghali a Former United Nations (UN) Secretary-General has passed away in Cairo, Egypt at the age of 93 years. Boutros-Ghali was Egyptian politician and sixth UN Secretary-General from 1992 to 1996.

About Boutros Boutros-Ghali:

  • He was born on 14 November 1922 in Cairo.
  • He was the grandson of Boutros Ghali former Prime Minister of Egypt from 1908 until his assassination in 1910.
  • He was United Nations first secretary-general from Africa.
  • While he was serving as UN Secretary-General he had overseen several world crises including the break-up of Yugoslavia, genocide and famine in Africa.
  • He was also associated with the famine in Somalia and organized the first massive UN relief operation in the horn of African country.
  • He was famously known as Pharaoh during his tenure for his reputation for being proud and prickly and reorganizing the UN bureaucracy by slashing posts and demoting officials. P
  • He had worked in the administrations of Egyptian Presidents Anwar Sadat and Hosni Mubarak before he joined UN.
  • From 1977 to 1991 he also had served as Egypt՚s Minister of State (MoS) for Foreign Affairs.
  • From 1997 to 2002 he had served as first Secretary General of La Francophone, an organization of French-speaking nations.
