China Unveils World’S Largest Amphibious Aircraft [ Current Affairs ]

The world’s largest amphibious aircraft called as the AG600. China has completed the production of it. This aircraft was exposed by the state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) in the southern port city of Zhuhai.

Key Features of AG600:

  • AG600, the huge seaplane is far larger than any other plane constructed for marine take-off and landing.
  • Aircraft has a maximum take-off weight is around the size of a commercial plane Boeing 737 and is maximum take-off weight of 53.5 tonnes.
  • It is projected for fighting forest fires and performing marine salvages and it has a maximum range of 4, 500 km.
  • It will be used for struggling forest fires and performing marine salvages.
  • AG600 will prevent off China’s dependence on foreign aviation firms for amphibious aircrafts.
  • It could possibly be used to display China’s capacity to conduct a variety of operations in the disputed South China Sea.

Note:

  • Wingspan of AG600 is considerably smaller than that of the H-4 Hercules to carry Allied troops into battle which was designed in the 1940s.
  • It was also known as the Spruce Goose.
  • It was regarded as by far the largest seaplane ever manufactured.
  • In 1947 it had made one only flight.
