Gurgaon Will Be Renamed as Gurugram Decided by Haryana Government [ Current Affairs ]


Haryana Government has decided that Gurgaon will be turn as Gurugram. State government also has renamed Mewat as Nuh. Chief Minister Manohar Lal has approved the proposal to change the names of Gurgaon and Mewat in this regard.

  • On the basis of the representations received at several forums the decision was taken to change the name of Gurgaon.
  • Since ancient times, Gurgaon had been a centre of learning where the princes used to get education and known as Gurugram since the times of Guru Dronacharya.
  • Mewat is a geographical and cultural unit spread beyond Haryana in the adjoining States of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
  • The Headquarters of Mewat district is at Nuh town.
  • The elected representatives and the people of area had been demanding that the name of Mewat be changed as Nuh.

  • Mewat (officially known as Nuh district) district is one of the 21 districts of Haryana state in northern India.
  • On 4 April 2005 the district was created as the 20th district of Haryana from erstwhile Gurgaon and the Hathin Block of Faridabad districts.
  • Nuh is the headquarters town of this district with occupies area of 1, 859.61 square kilometers (718.00 sq. mi) and as of the 2011 India survey had a population of 10, 89, 406.
