Imf Has Appointed Christine Lagarde as Md for a Second Term [ Current Affairs ]

The International Monetary Fund has appointed Christine Lagarde (60) from France has been appointed as the Managing Director (MD) for a second five-year term. She was only candidate who is nominated for the post and IMF’s Executive Board has decided to re-nominate her by consensus.

  • She will take charge under the re-appointment on 5th July 2016 till 2021.
  • In 2011 she was appointed as MD of IMF for the first time by selection process on merit-based and transparent process.
  • Since 1944 from the implementation of IMF she was first woman to head the top post of IMF.

  • She was born on 1st January 1956.
  • She is French lawyer and politician.
  • She had served as Minister of Finance and Minister for Foreign Trade of France before she was appointed as MD of IMF in 2011.
  • She had served as partner with the international law firm of Baker & McKenzie.
