India՚s First Driverless Train Trial Conducted by Delhi Metro

The trial run of the country՚s first ever Metro train equipped to run in the driverless mode has been conducted by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) . M. Venkaiah Naidu Union Minister for Urban Development and Arvind Kejriwal Chief Minister of Delhi has ritualistically flagged off train.

  • The driverless trains will run on the over 58 km-long Majlish Park-Shiv Vihar (Line 7) and the over 38 km-long Janakpuri (West) - Botanical Garden (Line 8) corridors of the Phase-III.

  • This new-generation driverless metro train well-found to travel on Unattended Train Actions mode.
  • It is also with advanced features.
  • It is appropriate to eventually run on UTO mode as the train has exceptionally high levels of automation.
  • So train operators will not be required to operate these trains.
  • The movement of the trains will be directly control by the Operations Control Centres (OCC) of the Delhi Metro system.
  • The On-board CCTV cameras offer secret and outside view of the train.
  • The control centre can directly access images from CCTV in driverless mode.
  • In addition, a green Receiving Sub Station (RSS) was also installed at Mukundpur.
  • It will help to meet the power supplies of the Majlis Park - Shiv Vihar corridor.
  • The RSS has been intended as a green construction with features such as solar power plant, rain water harvesting and sewage water treatment facilities.
