NASA’s Kepler spacecraft finds new 100 alien planets [ Current Affairs ]

()

More than 100 planets orbiting other stars have been discovered by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA’s) restored planet-hunting Kepler spacecraft. In second-chance K2 mission the Kepler spacecraft discovered these alien planets during by using the transit method.

Transit method

  • By using the transit method the Kepler spacecraft finds the planets.
  • After plants crosses its host star’s face from spacecraft’s perspective, it is uncovering of the tiny brightness dips caused by the planet.
  • Extreme precise pointing of spacecraft is requires for Transit method technique.

Kepler spacecraft

  • Kepler was launched in March 2009.
  • It is a Space observatory which is launched by NASA with the aim to discover Earth-like planets occur throughout the Milky Way galaxy.
  • It is part of NASA’s “Discovery Program” for low-cost, focused primary science mission.
  • It is very successful achievement of NASA; it has find more than 1, 000 alien planets of which half are exoplanets to be ever discovered.
  • Its only instrument is a photometer which constantly discovers brightness of about 145, 000 main sequence stars in secure field
