About Tsai Ing-wen: Tsai Ing-wen was born on 31st August 1956. She is the first president elected to Hakkaand Native succession first single president and the first to have never held a position of an elected post. She is also the second female president of East Asian nations after Park Geun-hye who is the presentSouth Korea President.

  • She is the obligatory chairwoman of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
  • She was also the party’s presidential candidate in 2012 and 2016.

About her election as President of Taiwan:

  • Pro-Independence Opposition candidate of Democratic Progressive Party, Tsai Ing-wen has been elected as first female President of Taiwan.
  • The first was Chen Shui-bian who also was pro-independence advocate from China.
  • In the 2016 general elections, DPP leads the camp that wants independence from China led by Tsai Ing-wen began victorious with 56 % of the total vote share.
  • She beaten Eric Chu of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) Party that secured only with 31 % vote share.
  • The KMT Party has ruled Taiwan for past 70 years.
