In Indian History total sixteen women have served as the chief minister of an Indian state. And at the current time five are in office—Jayalalithaa, Anandiben Patel, Vasundhara Raje, Mamata Banerjee and Mehbooba Mufti. Total thirteen states of India have been headed by a female chief minister. following some are most successful Women CM:

Jayalalithaa Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu

  • Jayaraman Jayalalithaa was born on 24 February 1948.
  • She was well known as Amma or as Jaya by Tamil Nadu people.
  • She is an Indian politician and the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu; in office since 2015 she had served as Chief Minister from 1991 to 1996, in 2001, from 2002 to 2006 and from 2011 to September 2014 and from June 2015 to May 2016.
  • Currently she is re-elected as Chief Minister on 19th May 2016 for the sixth successive time and took oath on 23 May 2016.

  • Mayawati Prabhu Das (Mayawati) was born on 15th January 1956.
  • She is mostly recognized as Kumari Mayawati (Miss Mayawati), or the Iron Lady Mayawati.
  • She is an Indian politician who served as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh (UP) for four terms as national president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). For the first time she was elected as youngest Chief Minister in 1995 and then in 1997, after that she is again designated as CM from 2002 to 2003 and from 2007 to 2012.

  • She has been designated seven times as a Member of Parliament and three times as a Member of the Legislative Assembly.
  • She became the youngest cabinet minister of north Indian state of Haryana at the age of 25 in 1977.
  • She also had served as 5th Chief Minister of Delhi in 1998
  • She was born on 14 February 1952.
  • She married to Swaraj Kaushal a peer and fellow advocate at the Supreme Court of India.

  • Mamata Banerjee was born on 5 January 1955, She is often referred to as Didi.
  • She is a Chief Minister of West Bengal since 2011.
  • She had founded the All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC or TMC) party in 1997 and became its chairperson, after separating from the Indian National Congress.
  • In 2011 Banerjee won the TMC Congress alliance in West Bengal by defeating the 34-year-old Communist Party of India (Marxist) -led Left Front government, the world’s longest-serving democratically-elected communist government.
  • For two terms Banerjee has served as the Minister of Railways and she was the first woman Railway Minister of India.
  • Apart from this she also had served as Minister of Coal and Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports and Women and Child Development in the cabinet of the Indian government.

  • Sheila Dikshit is a former Chief Minister of Delhi from 1998 to 2013.
  • She is a member of the Indian National Congress.
  • She was elected as member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly in December 2013.
  • Arvind Kejriwal Aam Aadmi Party leader has succeeded her in New Delhi as chief minister. Then she was sworn in as Governor of Kerala on 11 March 2014. But she resigned on 25 August 2014.

  • She is an Indian cabinet minister for water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation.
  • At a very young age she became involved with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and in 1984 she was unsuccessfully in her first Parliamentary elections.
  • She successfully disputed the Khajuraho seat in 1989, and reserved it in 1991, 1996 and 1998.
  • She transferred constituencies and won the Bhopal seat in 1999.

  • Mehbooba Mufti Sayeed is the 9th and current Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) since 4 April 2016.
  • She has succeeded her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in the role, after his death in January 2016.
  • After Syeda Anwara, Mehbooba is India’s second Muslim woman chief minister Taimur of Assam.
  • Mehbooba Mufti is the leader of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
  • She is currently a member of parliament; on behalf of Anantnag in the 16th Lok Sabha she will likely vacate this role in light of her chief minister ship.
  • She before had signified Anantnag in the 14th Lok Sabha (2004–09) but did not contest the 2009 election for the 15th Lok Sabha.
