World’s Largest Solar Power Plant Now at Kamudhi, Tamil Nadu [ Current Affairs - Science & Technology ]

The world’s largest solar power plant is not at Kamudhi in Ramanathapuram district 90 km from Madurai in Tamil Nadu. It has an installed capacity of 648MW. It was constructed in 5,000 acres by Adani Group with total expense of Rs 4,550 crore.

Key Facts

  • The plant was completed in eight months and utilized equipment and machinery from various parts of the world.
  • The plant includes:
  1. 25 lakh solar modules
  2. 3.8 lakh foundations
  3. 27,000m of structure
  4. 154 transformers
  5. 576 inverters
  6. 6,000km length of cables
  • Around 8,500 people worked per day to set up the plant in the predicted time.
  • Previously in world’s largest Single Rooftop Solar Power plant was inaugurated in Amritsar in May 2016.
