IELTS Examination: Do's and Dont's

  1. You may ask for volume adjustment of the cassette at the time of hearing in the beginning of the test administration. However it may not please all the test-takers.

  2. At the beginning of the test, listen to the instructions in the cassette carefully. It will explain the entire test procedure and how to fill up your personal data sheet and how to mark your answer sheet.

  3. Erase (if need), using a clean eraser.

  4. First attempt those questions which you know and can be worked out quickly. Leave enough space for the difficult ones and get back to them once you are done with the easy ones.

  5. You may highlight some points if you wish to recheck before you submit on the answer sheet. Do not forget to erase it before submitting the answer sheet.

  6. By chance, if you complete any of the sections before time, go for re-checking. You are not allowed to jump to another section before time. This is not permitted. If you are caught working on the wrong section, your test will be invalidated.

  7. Be prepare for changes. It may happen that the test has a changed format or you may have more questions to answer with a bit longer period of time.

  8. Answer all questions; however, do not waste time on difficult items. Be careful that you attempt all the answers, even if guesses as there is no negative marking.

  9. If you have less time left with you and you are sure that you may not be able to read all the questions and answer them, then just choose A, B, C, or D as your guess letter and quickly answer the items with that one letter. You are more likely to get some correct answers if you use one letter than if you use them all.
