Iits Will Hold Abroad Entrance Exam for Foreign Students from 2017 [ JEE Updates ]

The prestigious IITs are probably to hold their entrance tests in Singapore, UAE, Ethiopia and SAARC nations from 2017 for the first time ever for undergraduate and postgraduate courses to attract more International talent. At the first phase entrance tests will conduct in eight countries as decided in the official meeting between HRD and External affairs minister which includes:

  • Afghanistan,
  • Bangladesh,
  • Nepal,
  • Pakistan,
  • Sri Lanka,
  • Ethiopia in Africa,
  • Singapore and
  • Dubai.

The foreign national’s seats will not affect Indian national’s seats because these offered seats would be supernumerary or additional in nature at the 18 IITs and fees will be applicable if foreign students will also be more as the subsidized fee which Indians pay would not be applicable to them.

The students will be selected from common entrance exam administered by the IIT with the help of Indian mission.

MEA will give research visa for the duration of the programme rather than one year for the foreign students.

From August the outreach programme for the exercise would begin this year and will be conducted in all these eight countries. IIT Mumbai will prepare the necessary information material for this outreach which includes details of the tests, the courses and FAQs. A web portal may be created regarding to this. Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) will be the nodal agency on behalf of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for these tests. A report on comprehensive system has been prepared by the IIT-M Director to attract international students to the IITs.
