Calculators Allowed at SAT Exam 2016

An Acceptable Calculator

If you have a calculator with characters that are one inch or higher, or if your calculator has a raised display that might be visible to other test-takers, you will be seated at the discretion of the test supervisor. You are not required to clear the memory on your calculator.

Only battery-operated, handheld equipment can be used for testing. No power cords are allowed. Calculators permitted during testing include:

Not allowed as a calculator

  • A laptop, portable or handheld computer.
  • Electronic writing pad or pen-input/stylus-driven device (e. g. Palm, PDAs, Casio ClassPad 300) Note: The Sharp EL-9600 may be used without the stylus.
  • Pocket organizer.
  • Cell phone calculator.
  • Calculator that has QWERTY (keyboard-like) keypad (e. g. TI-92 Plus, Voyage 200)
  • Calculator that uses an electrical outlet, makes noise or has a paper tape.
  • Hardware peripherals like stylus with an approved calculator is not permitted.
  • Some models with touch-screen capability are not permitted (e. g. Casio ClassPad).

General calculator policy

  • Acceptable calculators are allowed for mathematics questions only. Sharing of Calculators is not allowed.
  • You will be dismissed and your scores canceled if you use your calculator to share information during the test, or to remove test questions or answers from the test room.
