This denotes higher percentage of children population, poor longetivity and higher dependency ratio. While the percentage of child population to the total population has shown fluctuating trend. The adult and aged population has shown decreasing and increasing trends respectively.

  • Dependency ratio: It is the ratio between adults on the one hand and aged along with young on the other.India՚s dependency ratio in 1997 stood at 65, but is expected to declined significantly to 47.3% by 2015.
