ICHR Doctoral Fellowships for Foreign Nationals

Introduction

The Indian Council of Historical Research Doctoral Fellowships for Foreign Nationals is a Fellowship awarded by the Indian Council of Historical Research to deserving scholars who are foreign nationals.

The Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) is an independent organization, which is a society under the Indian Societies Registration Act, 1860. ICHR was established in the year 1972.

The ICHR aims at the following:

  • To gather all historians and give them a platform for interaction.

  • To give an all India basis direction to the way history is written i.e.. To make the writing of history scientific and rational.

  • To propagate, motivate as well as organize research activities in history with thrust on areas which have remained unattended so far.

  • To accelerate and coordinate research activities in history in order to bring about a balance among the various areas of historical research.

Functional Areas

The ICHR is functional in the areas quoted below:

  • Giving fellowships and funds to teachers in colleges, universities and research organizations of repute. It also assists senior teachers who require financial help.

  • Assembling historians by providing funds for symposiums, seminars and workshops.

  • Providing financial aid for seminars, congress proceedings and journals so that the benefits of these research work reach the scholars.

  • Publication of a journal by the name of Indian Historical Review, which comes out twice a year.

  • Maintenance of an ever growing Library cum-Documentation Center for research scholars.

  • Running of two regional centers in Guwahati as well as in Bangalore.

Eligibility

The Doctoral Fellowships for Foreign Nationals, granted by the Indian Council of Historical Research are basically for those who have not been debarred from being granted scholarships under the other schemes.

Duration

The Indian Council of Historical Research Doctoral Fellowships for Foreign Nationals are awarded to foreign nationals for an atmost time period of 1 year which is not generally extended beyond this period.

Application Procedure

The printed application form, published along with the notification, should be submitted, complete in all respects to the Indian Council of Historical Research 35, Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi 110001, within the prescribed date. Applications should be routed through the university, college or institute where the applicant is employed. The application should be accompanied by the following documents:

  • 5 copies of exhaustive note on the research plan.

  • Curriculum Vitae of the applicant.

Value of Scholarships

The value of the Indian Council of Historical Research Doctoral Fellowships for Foreign Nationals are decided on a case-to-case basis by the Research Projects Committee.
