NTPC Scholarships

Introduction

The National Institute of Science Communication And Information Resources (NISCAIR) Scholarship was instituted by the NISCAIR for Research Associateship in Information Science and is a center at the all India level for allotting ISSN numbers for scientific journals and periodicals published in India. NISCAIR is a global body, which shares scientific information with a large number of institutions spread across more than 40 countries of the world.

The NTPC Scholarships or the National Thermal Power Corporation Scholarships were started with the initiative of National Thermal Power Corporation, one of India's biggest public sector undertaking engaged in power generation and construction of thermal power projects. These are given to students belonging to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes and pursuing diploma courses in engineering from institutes which have earned due recognition for themselves.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for applying for the NTPC Scholarships are:

  • Candidates need to pass the first year examination of Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechanical or Civil Engineering diploma courses.

  • Candidates must necessarily belong to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes and must possess a good academic record.

  • Candidates must not have received any other grant or scholarship or monetary help whatsoever from anywhere else.

  • Candidates must be residents of either Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh or Rajasthan.

Duration of Scholarships

  • Scholarship period is from the second year of the course till its completion.

  • Scholarships are available all the year round.

  • Number of scholarships will depend fully on the discretion of the management.

Value of Scholarships

  • The amount of NTPC Scholarships are for a maximum amount of Rs. 600 a month.

  • The scholarships remain valid as long the students perform well as well as remain disciplined during their course of study.

Scope for Employment in NTPC

Candidates who are successful in acquiring a scholarship from NTPC are required to appear for a selection test for filling up the post of Diploma Trainees, in case there are vacancies. On appointment as Diploma Trainees, candidates will be nourished with training for a year during which a stipend amount will be paid to them as per official rules and regulations. In case a candidate is able to complete the training successfully, he will be given a suitable appointment and asked to be in employment with NTPC for atleast 3 years from the date of appointment.
