Introduction

While evaluating the area of creative arts, the Department of Culture, Govt. Of India came to the conclusion that no schemes providing economical support to the outstanding creative artists available in the country.

It was always believed that such a scheme should be implemented at the earliest to rejoice the country՚s traditional art forms. With an idea in mind, that it was decided that a scheme of awarding fellowships to exemplary performers in different creative fields would be launched.

The scheme is also known as the ‘Scheme for the Award of Fellowships to Outstanding Artists in the fields of Performing, Literary and Plastic Arts’ is made available to artists in rural as well as in tribal areas too.

Eligibility

  • Applicants need to provide documentary evidence in support of her credentials.
  • Applicants for Senior Fellowships should not be a pensioner from the Department of Culture, Govt. Of India
  • Once an applicant has been awarded a Fellowship, he or she shall not be eligible for a second Fellowship before the completion of 5 years from the date of completion of the earlier one.

Value of Scholarship

Two types of scholarships are there, under the scheme of-Senior Fellowship as well as Junior Fellowship. In case of the Senior Fellowship category, there are 85 scholarships for an amount of ₹ 12,000 each a month, for artists aged 40 years and above. The Junior Fellowship is also 85 in number but for an amount of ₹ 6000/-each a month for artists aged between 25 and 40 years, as on 1st April.

Application Procedure

Applications for award of the Fellowship are accepted every year in a decided format, from Indian nationals. An expert committee from various different areas will be formed by the Department of Culture, Govt. Of India. The committee checks all the applications and at the end selects the successful desired candidates for a specific year.
