Introduction

The Fulbright Scholarship or Fulbright Program give grants for various educational purposes to the students, research scholars and professionals. This scholarship help students to pursue graduation courses, conduct advanced research and teach in universities and schools. The United States Senator, J. William Fulbright was the brain behind this novel idea of scholarship program, which generally focuses at speeding up the process of exchange of ideas, culture and education between the U. S as well as other countries.

Formed in 1946, the Fulbright Scholarship is currently running in 144 countries around the world. The U. S Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (the Bureau) sponsors the Fulbright Program. In association with the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), the Bureau administers the Fulbright Scholar Program for faculty as well as professionals.

Outstanding Scholars from both the United States of America and visiting countries are involved in lectures and research activities in different subjects, which covers music, journalism, urban planning, business administration and zoology among others.

Funds for the fulbright Program will be given by the United States Congress on a yearly basis to the Department of State. Governments in other participating countries also contribute economically by providing funds for the scholarship through indirect methods like cost sharing, waiver of tuition fees, housing facilities etc.

The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, appointed by the President of the United States is liable for selection of the students who are privileged to receive the scholarships worldwide.
