English and Foreign Languages University

Grown out of Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL), the English and Foreign Languages University, popularly known as EFL, is a first of its kind. It is a Central University, unlike its parent institute, which is a Deemed University. It was established on 3rd August by an act of Parliament which considered the growing importance of foreign languages in India. It is devoted to critical intercultural understanding of civilizations and to improve the quality of teaching of English and Foreign Languages.

The English and Foreign Languages University has three campuses at present. They are at Hyderabad, Lucknow and Shillong.

With five different schools, the Hyderabad campus of English and Foreign Languages University is the biggest. These five schools offer a large number of courses.

  1. School of critical Humanities

  2. School of Distance Education

  3. School of English language Education

  4. School of Foreign Languages

  5. School of Language Sciences

Activities

Since its inception in 1979, the Lucknow campus of EFL has been actively engaged in curricular activities. These activities include:

  1. Conducting courses for university and college teachers

  2. Proficiency courses for a wide spectrum of learners

  3. Contact programmes for the participants of Post-graduate Certificate in the Teaching of English The Lucknow campus of EFL also offers a regular two-year programme in M A (English) and a postgraduate diploma in teaching of English.

The Shillong campus of EFL was established in 1973 to strengthen the teaching of English and Foreign Languages in the North Eastern region. It offers courses such as:
