Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur

Known as the Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE) since its conception, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) started in June, 1960 as a result of treaty between the Central and Maharashtra Government with aid of both the governments. It was one of the first pioneer six Regional Engineering colleges that set up the era of development for science and technology in the country. It was named after the great engineer and visionary, Bharat Ratna Sir. M Visvesvaraya. Now that it has been granted the status of a Deemed University, it has turned to be a national college than remaining confined as regional college.

Set up with an aim of improvising the technical manpwer of the state, the institute makes every possible effort to achieve the aim, whther it is upgrading the syllabus involving the help of technical person or focusing on new and important developments in the industry.

Distance Education Program

Distance Education Program: Part time semester courses for professionals, teachers and senior U. G/P. G students have been launched by VNIT in collaboration with Kanwal Rekhi School of Information Technology (KreSIT) and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT B).

Admission Procedures

Candidates are granted admission to Undergraduate courses as per the ranks obtained by them in entrance exam known as All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEE). 50% of the total seats in the institute are reserved for students applying from Maharashtra, leaving the rest for students of other states.

Admission to PG courses consider the scores in GATE examination, in the absence of which, marks of entrance exam conducted by respective departments are considered.

Fee Structure

Fees for Undergraduate students is Rs. 11135 for first sem, and Rs. 10635 in 3rd, 5th and 7th sems.

Stipendiary students have to pay a total of Rs. 36, 750, while non-stipendiary students have to pay, Rs. 56, 570 as their course fees.

For distance education programs, teachers are to pay Rs. 4, 000, while the fees for students is Rs. 6, 000. It is Rs. 7, 000-Rs. 10, 000 per semester for practicing professionals.

Other Facilities

Various clubs like the NCC, Spic Macay club, Robotics club, Literature club, Photography Club, e. t. c. Are available in which the students can participate.
