Medical Colleges in Assam

Gauhati University, affiliated to the Universities of Assam, Dibrugarh and Gauhati takes up Common Entrance Examination (CEE) for admission to first year MBBS/BDS courses in 3 medical and 1 dental colleges.

Exemption from CEE is given to:

  1. States/Central Government nominees

  2. Candidates ranked within the first ten position in the qualifying exam of Assam Higher Secondary Education Council securing at least 75% aggregate marks in Phyics, Chemistry and Biology. These candidates are required to apply directly for admission to the Director of Medical Education, Assam.

Reservations for admission in colleges

  1. 15% SC

  2. 7% ST

  3. 15% (Plains 10% Hills 5%) OBC

  4. 15% Defence personnel/Ex-servicemen

  5. 3 seats in MBBS and 1 in BDS for Freedom Fighters

  6. 2 seats in MBBS for Martyrs of Assam Movement

  7. 2 Seats in MBBS & 1 in BDS for children of Tea Garden/ex-tea garden communities/tribes

  8. 6 seats in MBBS and 1 in BDS SEBC

  9. 2 seats in MBBS for children/first family of persons killed in extremist violence in Assam

  10. 2 seats in MBBS and 1 in BDS for Nominated candidates

  11. 13 seats (Meghalaya 10; Arunachal Pradesh 1; Nagaland 1; Mizoram 1 seat)

  12. 15 seats Govt of India nominees

Eligibility for admission

  1. Age: 17 − 24 yrs (17 − 27 yrs for SC/ST) on December 31 of the year of admission. Also the candidates should be mentally fit.

  2. Academic Qualification: 12 yrs Higher Secondary Science exam, securing 50% (40% for SC/ST/OBC) aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English in the same sitting.

  3. Bond execution: Selected candidates have to execute a bond to serve the State Government for 5 yrs after completion of the course, failing which they have to pay a sum of Rs. 5, 35, 000.
