The ACT comprises of 4 trademark MCQ subject tests covering English, Maths, Reading, and Science. Questions are well framed to examine entire educational development and their ability to finish college-level work. Total time allotted is around 2 hours and 55 minutes for the test which does not include the breaks.

Considering only the correct responses and not the incorrect responses, subject test scores (from 1 to 36) are found out. All the 4 areas (English, Maths, Reading, and Science) are then averaged together to come up with the overall score.

The ACT also includes an optional 30-minute writing test which is aimed to measure the student՚s skill in planning and writing a short essay.
