Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli is among the seven Indian Institutes of Management. It is established during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan. Inaugurated on January 4, 2011, it is the eleventh Indian Institute of Management in India and it is administered by IIM Bangalore. The first batch classes have began on June 15 2011.
The former SEBI chairman M Damodaran leads the board of governors, whereas IIM-C faculty Prafulla Y Agnihotri is the director of IIM-Trichy.
Currently, The institute is working from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli campus until the permanent building is in place. NIT-T will give buildings for the purpose of classes, hostel as well as faculty accommodation.
The permanent campus of institute will be on 200 acres (0.81 km2) of land between Bharathidasan University and Anna University of Technology on the Trichy-Pudukottai highway, 17 km southeast of the city centre and 12 km from Tiruchirapalli International Airport.
IIM-Trichy provides a full-time post-graduate programme in Management of two years. The ultimate aim is to nurture young men and women into skillful professional managers, deserving to work in any sector of organized activity, proceeding leadership and attaining expertise in the performance while promoting the welfare of society.

The two years full-time Post-Graduate Programme in Management i.e.. PGP. The Fellow Programme in Management i.e.. FPM is a full time, residential doctoral programme of Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli (IIMT). The FPM at IIMT is accredited worldwide and is the crucial source of rigorous and inter-disciplinary research in all areas of business management and public policy. The programme basically deals with providing training to individuals who will progress in their areas of research through creation of quality knowledge of international standard. FPM students will specialize in the disciplines mentioned below-
- Finance and Accounting.
- Quantitative Techniques.
- Operations Management.
