23 Universities, 279 Colleges Are Declared “Fake” by UGC and AICTE

According to the University Grant Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) 23 universities and 279 colleges in India are offering engineering and other technical courses without the regulator՚s permission. It has been declared as fake by UGC.

  • According to the released list:
    • Delhi tops the chart with 66 fake colleges.
    • 9 out of 23 such universities offering technical and other engineering courses without the UGC՚s permission are functioning in Uttar Pradesh, Odisha (two) and West Bengal (two) .
    • Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Maharashtra also have a large number of such institutes.
    • These Universities are functioning against the provisions of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956.
