After identifying need to propound the grievance faced by score of students in colleges & universities, Delhi high court is directed UGC (University Grants Commission) to set up ‘Grievance Redressal Cell’ in all universities within 4 months.

  • Appointment of Ombudsman & grievance redressal committee were mandatory & were provide for under UGC Regulations of 2012.

Grievance Redressal Committee

  • Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) of University was constituted under UGC on December 2012.

  • Purpose of committee is to provide means to seek redressal thru investigation & resolution of academic, resource related & personal grievance.

  • Term of committee shall be for 2 years. Next committee to be reconstituted in August 2018.

Online Student Grievance Redressal Portal

  • UGC portal was launched ’Online Student Grievance Redressal Portal.

  • With this student can register complaints regarding admission process, reservation policy, discrimination on basis of caste & even non-declaration of results through portal – www.ugc.ac.in.

  • Aim of the portal is to ensure transparency in admission & curbing unfair practices in higher education institution & provide effective mechanism for redressal of grievance.

  • To make portal effective, each university has appointed dedicated nodal officer, who will responsible for redressal of grievances related to affiliated colleges.

  • Once grievance is registered, student can see email ID, phone number & other contact details of respective nodal officer.

  • Officer also can see complainants’ contact details.

  • Reminder facility also provided by portal. Officer will have to ensure redressal of grievance in timely manner. If he/she fails to do, automatic reminder will be sent to complainant every 2 weeks for closure of grievance.
