  • The dam is constructed on the Barakar River. The lake is spread over 65 square kilometres (25 sq mi) .

  • Hirakud Power Plant is a coal based captive thermal power plant located near Hirakud in Sambalpur district in the Indian state of Odisha.
  • The power plant is operated by the Hindalco Industries.
  • The plant supplies power to Hirakud smelter of Hindalco Industries.
  • The coal for the plant is sourced from Talabira captive coal mines.

  • The Mahanirmiti or Mahagenco (Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited - MSPGCL) formerly known as MSEB (Maharashtra State Electricity Board) is the major power generating company in the state of Maharashtra, Western India.
  • The power generated by Mahagenco is supplied to the State of Maharashtra.
  • It was a part of Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) until 06th June 2005.
KhopoliMaharashtra
  • Khopoli is an industrial city in the Khalapur taluka of Raigad district, in the Indian state of Maharashtra at the base of the Sahyadri Mountains.
  • Patalganga River, which is the tailrace channel of Tata Hydroelectric Power station, flows through Khopoli.
  • It is a municipal council and is a part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Khopoli Municipal council covers an area of 30 km2.

  • It generates power-using water from the nearby Mulshi Dam.

  • The Koyna Hydroelectric Project is the largest completed hydroelectric power plant in India.
  • It is a complex project with four dams including the largest dam on the Koyna River known as the Koyna Dam hence the name Koyna Hydroelectric Project.

  • Radhanagari Dam, is a gravity dam on Bhogawati river near Radhanagari in State of Maharashtra in India.
  • This is the first ever built dam in India.
  • Visionary Rajarshi Shahu initiated Dam construction on 18 February 1907.
  • Dam is being used for irrigation as well as hydro-electricity power generation. Dam is located amidst scenic surrounding in the backdrop of thick forest cover.
Munirabad
  • Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (or KPCL) is a company owned by the government of Karnataka, and is engaged in the Service of generating electrical power in the state of Karnataka in India.
  • The modes for generation of electric power are hydroelectric, thermal and diesel.
  • KPCL has 34 dams (including the main, pickup and saddle dams) and 24 power stations across the state with power production capabilities ranging from 0.35 MW to 1035 MW.

  • Supa Dam is built across Kalinadi (Kannada) or Kali river in state of Karnataka in India.
  • The power house at the foot of the dam has two electricity generators of fifty megawatt each.
  • The electricity generated is supplied to different parts of Karnataka.
  • The dam was built by Hindustan Steel Works Construction Limited (HSCL) and is now operated by Karnataka Power Corporation Limited.
  • The power house was commissioned in 1985.

  • Valparai is located 64 km (40 mi) from Pollachi and 55 km (34 mi) from Chalakudy, Kerala.
  • The Solaiyar dam is a vital reservoir under the Parambikulam Aliyar Project and has a water storage capacity of 160 ft (49 m) .
  • The reservoir՚s overflowing waters are let into the Parambikulam Reservoir through the saddle dam.
IdukkiKerala
  • The Idukki Dam is a double curvature arch dam constructed across the Periyar River in a narrow gorge between two granite hills Kuravan and Kurathi in Kerala, India.
  • At 167.68 metres, it is one of the highest arch dams in Asia.
  • It was constructed and is owned by the Kerala State Electricity Board.
  • It supports a 780 MW hydroelectric power station in Moolamattom, which started generating power on 4 October 1975.

  • The Ponniar (South Pennar) is a river in southern India.
  • It rises on the hill of Nandidurg in Chikkaballapur District of Karnataka state, flowing south and then east for 400 km through Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, emptying into the Bay of Bengal at Cuddalore.
  • Tirukkovilur is the largest city in the path of Ponniar River.
  • The South Pennar River is known as Dakshina Pinakini in Kannada and Thenpennai in Tamil.
  • It is also referred as Ponnaiyar.
SabarigiriKerala
  • Sabarigiri Hydroelectric Power Plant India is located at Moozhiyar, Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, India.
  • Sabarigiri Power House After about 5.5 km of tunnels and buried pipe (low pressure) , and 2.5 km of penstock pipe (high pressure) , running to here from Kakki Dam (about 8 km east of here) , the waters of the Kakki and Pampa (via a tunnel linking the Kochu Pampa Reservoir with the Anithode-Kakki Reservoir) rivers power 6 generators of combined capacity of 300MW in this power house, operated by the Kerala State Electricity Board.
