Nira Radia is a PR consultant and corporate lobbyist. She heads four PR companies: Vaishnavi Corporate Communications, Neosis Strategic Consulting Services, Vitcom Consulting and Neucom Consulting. She has attracted a lot of controversy of late over her secretly recorded conversations with some prominent journalists and politicians which are now popularly called the Nira Radia Tapes. The Income Tax department received authorization from the home ministry and started tapping Nira Radias phone for 300 days during 2008 − 2009 after raising suspicions over her possible involvement in money laundering and several financial irregularities.

The phone recordings ended up unveiling the 2G scam which has created a lot of attention and controversy. According to reports the 2G scam has cost the government a loss of ₹ 1.76 lakh crores which led to the resignation of A Raja who was head of ministry of communications. The conversations have Nira Radia lobbying for and with corporate houses, politicians and journalists. Prominent personalities like Vir Sangvi, Bharka Dutt, Ratan Tata, Kanimozhi, A Raja etc have been revealed to have had conversations with her where some form of lobbying had taken place. She is also accused of amassing wealth to the tune of 300 crores over a short period of nine years.
