It was the 127th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar who was even a Bharat Ratna was celebrated at the Parliament House complex. Floral tribute was paid by the President, Vice President and Prime Minister to the statue of Ambedkar. The celebrations were organized by Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.

Facts about B R Ambedkar

  • He was born on 14th april 1956 and was popularly known as Baba Saheb
  • He was an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer.
  • He had inspired the Dalit Buddhist Movement and campaigned against social discrimination againstUntouchables.
  • He was the 1st law minister of the country, post independence and the backbone who created the Constitution of India
  • He was a medalist student, he had earned doctorate in economics from both Columbia University and the London School of Economics, and gained a reputation as a scholar for his research in law, economics and political science.
  • He had been an economist, professor and lawyer.
  • He marked his image my standing for the rights of the dalits and lower class people and working for the freedom of Dalits, and contributing significantly to the establishment of the state of India.
  • In 1956 he converted his religion to Buddhism.
  • Granville Austin described the Indian Constitution drafted by Ambedkar as ‘first and foremost a social document’.

Constitution of India

  • It is the supreme law of India.
  • It makes the framework defining fundamental political principles, establishes the structure, procedures, powers and duties of government institutions and sets out fundamental rights, directive principles and the duties of the citizens
  • Our constitution serve as the longest written constitution of any sovereign country in the world
