A new species named Cryodrakon Boreas has been identified by the Paleontologists in Western Canada. This species is believed to have flown over the heads of dinosaurs. Paleontologists are the person who studies fossil animals and plants. The Cryodrakon boreas has a wingspan of 10m or about 33 feet and weight about 250 kg. This is roughly three times the size of the world’s biggest bird now alive.

  • This plane sized species is believed to have lorded over primeval skies above T-rex, Triceratops and other dinosaurs of the late Cretaceous.

  • According to paleontologists this species belonged to an already known species of pterosaur, Quetzalcoatlus.

  • This species is believed to have lived over 77 million years ago in what is western Canada today.

  • The remains included a skeleton consisting of parts of the wings, legs, neck and a rib.

  • This reptile is believed to be a ground hunter because of its muscular shape.

  • The flight is being used to burst away from danger or to seize its prey.

  • The spinal column, shape of the legs and size of the creature is believed to have been affected by the shape of vertebrae, cervical bones and leg bones.

  • The cache of the bones shows that this species is actually a part of a new genus and species.

  • The presence of a partial skeleton reflects about the anatomy of these large flyers, how they flew and how they lived.

  • The anatomy of this new species is expected to help in the future for biologically inspired mechanical design for flight.

  • Researchers also believe that this species will also help in responding how animals responded to major climate changes.

  • The Cryodrakon boreas is believed to have fed on lizards, small mammals and baby dinosaurs.
