Enumeration will be done in all villages & urban wards.
Various species of animals (Cattle, Buffalo, Mithun, Yak, Sheep, Goat, Pig, Horse, Pony, Mule, Donkey Camel, Dog, Rabbit & Elephant) ⟋ poultry birds (Fowl, Duck, Emu, Turkeys, Quail & other poultry birds) possessed by households, household enterprises⟋non-household enterprises & institutions will be counted at their site.
Digital India and Livestock Census
Major thrust of 20th Livestock Census would be data collection thru tablets⟋computers which aims to fulfil objective of Digital India Programme.
Tablets procured under NMBP Scheme will be used for data collections of 20th Livestock Census for which necessary support is provided to States under that scheme.
Mobile Application software is developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC) for collecting transferring data online.
It is expected that data collection thru Tablets will be of great help in reducing time gap in data collection, data processing & report generation.
20Th Livestock Census Would be Breed-Wise Livestock Census
20th Livestock Census would be breed-wise Livestock Census which will be helpful for framing policies or programmes for breed improvement.
Breed-wise information of livestock & poultry will be collected from every survey unit.
Initiatives on collection of breed-wise reliable information of various species will give vital information for determination of threatened indigenous breeds & to take initiatives for their conservation.
Breeds of various major species including poultry as registered by National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR) will be covered in Livestock Census.
Fishery Aspect
Latest data on fishermen folk are available as per Livestock Census 2003 only.
Fishery part is very imp. component so as to capture information of fishermen families & infrastructure available for both inland & marine sector.
Background on Livestock Census
Livestock Census is conducted in country periodically since 1919 - 20.
Livestock Census usually covers all domesticated animals & headcounts of those animals will be carried out during specific time period.
19 such census are conducted in participation w⟋State Govt. & UT Administrations.
