2G Ethanol Plant at Panipat

  • This 2G Ethanol plant is expected to consume about 2.17 lakh tonnes of paddy straw from the surrounding areas of Panipat and it will prevent the burning of stubble in the fields.

  • National biofuel policy 2018 set a target to 20 % ethanol blending in petrol by 2030.

  • This plant is expected to produce 3 crore liters of Ethanol annually that will help in achieving 10 % ethanol blending in Haryana.

  • The conversion of paddy straw into ethanol will reduce the carbodioxide emissions to 2.8 lakh MT.

  • 1G ethanol is produced using vegetable oils of food crops sugar starch while 2G ethanol is used on different crop waste, agricultural Residue such as paddy, wheat straw, Bagasse etc.

  • Biogas, Bioelectricity, Bio manure being generated as byproducts from ethanol plants.

  • Biomasses like wheat, paddy straw etc are abundant in India they can be converted into biofuels.

  • Biofuels are in the form of liquid and gaseous bio-fuels. The liquid biofuel is the ethanol that is blended with petrol and gaseous biofuel and this biogas can be used as CNG fuel for the vehicles.

Significances of a 2G Ethanol Plant

  • It generates employment opportunity. Over 1200 jobs will be generated in 2G biorefinery in plant operations and supply chain management.

  • It also generates additional income to the farmers: agricultural produce can be converted to ethanol farmers get additional income by giving their biomass to plants.

  • Infrastructure investments in rural areas.

  • Environment friendly.

  • Reduce the dependency on conventional energy sources.

  • Helps in doubling farmer’s income.
