Ayurveda Day was observed across India on occasion of Dhanawantari Jayanti or Dhanteras w/aim to further promote Ayurveda as mainstream system of medicine. Minister of State for AYUSH has announced that Ayurveda Departments will be opened in new 19 AIIMS.

Theme of Ayurveda Day

  • Theme of 3rd Ayurveda Day was “Ayurveda for Public health”.

  • All State Govt. , State AYUSH Directorates, all Ayurveda colleges/teaching institutions, AYUSH/Health Universities, Associations of Ayurveda Practitioners, Ayurveda Drug Industries & stakeholders of Ayurveda in India & abroad observed 3rd Ayurveda Day centered on this theme.

Objectives of Ayurveda Day

  • Focus on strengths of Ayurveda & its unique treatment principles

  • Reduce burden of disease & related mortality by utilising potential of Ayurveda

  • Exploring Ayurveda to contribute towards National health policy & National Health programmes

  • Promote Ayurvedic principles of healing in society

Ayurveda Day is Observed on Occasion of Dhanawantari Jayanti

  • Every year, Ministry of AYUSH observes Ayurveda Day on occasion of Dhanawantari Jayanti (Dhanteras).

  • Ayurveda is perceived as one of well documented systems of medicine, equally relevant in modern times.

  • Prevention of disease & promotion of health is main aim of Ayurveda. Lord Dhanvantari is considered as divine propagator of Ayurveda. He holds virtues of granting health & wealth.

  • Therefore, Dhanvantari Jayanti was preferred for celebration of Ayurveda Day by Ministry of AYUSH to nationalise this system of medicine.

National Seminar on Entrepreneurship & Business Development in Ayurveda

  • Ministry of AYUSH held “National Seminar on Entrepreneurship & Business Development in Ayurveda” in association w/NITI Aayog to encourage entrepreneurs & Ayurveda stakeholders towards businesses opportunities in sector.

  • Seminar is subsequent step to initiatives undertaken by Ministry to increase Ayurveda Market share 3 fold by year 2022.

  • Seminar is expected to develop awareness among stakeholders abt business opportunities, encourage young entrepreneurs to use of modern technologies & modern innovations in business development & to highlight opportunities at global level.

  • Experts in marketing, finance mgmt. , innovation, telemedicine, policy makers, experts in start-up & experienced entrepreneurs in Ayurveda pharmaceuticals & hospital industry guided & shared their experiences w/participants.

National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Award

  • Ministry conferred National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Award to eminent Vaidyas on this occasion.

  • Awards consist of Citation, Trophy (Dhanwantari Statue) & Cash reward of Rs. 5 lakh.

  • 3 Awardees selected by ministry for award were:

  • Vaidya Shiv Kumar Mishra

  • Vaidya Madhav Singh Bhagel

  • Vaidya Itoozhi Bhavadasan Namboothiri

  • Winners of National level Ayurveda quiz conducted by All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, were felicitated during function.

AYUSH-Health Management Information System (A-HMIS)

  • Ministry launched AYUSH-Health Management Information System (A-HMIS), dedicated software application for Electronic Health Record (EHR) for AYUSH systems of Healthcare.

  • A-HIMS was launched across 15 AYUSH units in diff. parts of country in 1st phase.

  • It is expected to revolutionize way Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha & Homoeopathy are practised in country, by inducting modern IT-solutions into these systems.
