NITI Aayog is organizing 4th edition of NITI Lecture Series at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 22nd Oct. , 2018. PM will attend 4th edition of NITI Lecture series in which keynote address will be delivered by Jensen Huang, President & Co-Founder, NVIDIA Corporation.

  • Theme is “AI for ALL: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for Inclusive Growth”.

AI & NITI

  • Artificial intelligence is use of computers to simulate human intelligence. AI amplifies cognitive abilities, letting solve problems where complexity is great, information is incomplete, or details are subtle & require expert training.

  • Union Budget-2018 ordered NITI Aayog to come up w/national programme on employing Artificial Intelligence towards national development.

  • NITI has published National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence. National Strategy lays down vision of India for evolving robust ecosystem for AI research & adoption.

  • Strategy is termed #AIForAll. It is focused on leveraging AI for inclusive growth in line w/Govt. policy of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.

  • NITI Aayog has signed Statements of Intent (SoI) with industry leaders such as Google, Microsoft & IBM to leapfrog India into global arena of future technologies & enable use of artificial intelligence in key, high gain sectors of social development such as healthcare, agriculture, smart mobility, education & infrastructure.

  • Multiple pilot projects are launched in areas of precision agriculture, creating AI led healthcare solutions, & bridging India’s diversity of languages by creating digital “Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat” platform using Natural Language Processing (NLP). NLP is system of protocols which allow machines or computers to understand & interact w/human speech & symbols.

  • NITI has proposed setting up of Centre of Research Excellence (CORE) to focus on developing better understanding of existing core research.

About NITI Lecture Series

  • ‘NITI Lectures: Transforming India’ was inaugurated by PM on 26th Aug. , 2016.

  • 1st key note address ‘India & Global Economy’ was delivered by Deputy PM of Singapore.

  • Bill Gates, Co-Founder, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation delivered 2nd lecture in high-powered lecture series on ‘Technology & Transformation’.

  • Dr. Michael Porter, Bishop William Lawrence University Professor at Harvard Business School, delivered 3rd Transforming India Lecture, titled ‘Competitiveness of Nations and States: New Insights’.

  • Aim of series is to enable learning, both at Centre & States, from successful development practice world over.

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) is area of computer science that emphasizes creation of intelligent machines that work & react like humans.

  • Some of activities computers w/artificial intelligence are designed for include:

  • Problem solving

Internet of Things

  • Internet of Things (IoT) is computing concept that describes idea of everyday physical objects being connected to internet & being able to identify themselves to other devices.

  • Term is identified w/RFID as method of communication It may include other sensor technologies, wireless technologies or QR codes.

Cloud Computing

  • Cloud computing is delivery of computing services: servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, intelligence & moreover Internet (“the cloud”) to offer faster innovation, flexible resources & economies of scale.
