51 Eklavya Model Residential Schools Get Functional in Last Three Years

51 new Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) were made functional by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in last three years, so currently 161 EMR Schools are running which were 110 in the year 2013 - 14.

  • Around 52 thousand tribal students belong to 26 States getting advantage of these 161 EMR Schools.

About Eklavya Model Residential School

  • EMRS Scheme was introduced in 1998 and Maharashtra was the first state to introduce EMRS in the year 2000.
  • Since that total 259 EMRS have been sanctioned in which 72 EMRS were sanctioned during last three years.
  • EMRS is institution of excellence for tribal students and education will be entirely free.
  • Compared to other government school results of EMRS are better in the tribal areas with 90% average pass percentage of X and XII Class students.
  • Students belongs to EMRS are proofing well in higher studies and competitive examinations.
  • In next five years Government extend EMRSs in those 672area where 50% of the total population are ST in order to climb further educational opportunities for more ST children.
  • According to the EMRS Guidelines of 2010 there must be one EMRS in each Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) ⟋ Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) which has 50% of population will be ST of total population.
  • Setting up the school complex of EMRS including hostels and staff quarters have budget of ₹ 12 crore, if the school have to setup in hill areas, deserts and islands then the budget will be ₹ 16 crore.
  • For the first year recurring cost per child will be ₹ 42000⟋- and it will risen up by 10% every second year to compensate for inflation.
  • Admission process of EMRS
    • Student gets admission by selection⟋competition.
    • The number of seats for boys and girls will be equal.
    • Every class have capacity of 60 students in 2 sections of 30 students each and school will have total 480 students, for Higher Secondary level three sections per class for the three streams in Science, Commerce & Humanities.
