Scientists of IIT Kharagpur have come to know in research that drought lasted for not a few years or not few decades but for 900 years.
Research of IIT Kharagpur
Geology & Geophysics Department of IIT, Kharagpur studied patterns of monsoon during last nearly 5000 years & found that rainfall in North-West Himalayas for almost 900 years was no more.
According to his research published- 4,350 years ago reason for end of Indus Valley Civilization was severe draught.
It has emerged in study that 2,350 BC (4,350 years ago) to 1,450 BC- monsoon had started to weaken in Indus Valley civilization.
Due to this, Indus & its tributaries which were filled w⟋rain for years, dried up. Indus Valley Civilization was at edge of these rivers.
W⟋end of water in rivers, people went east & south towards Ganga-Yamuna valley where rains were better.
In all new areas, all residents of area were shifted & area was completely empty.
Indus Valley Civilization
It was name of this civilization due to Indus Valley civilization & its tributaries, Ravi, Chenab, Vyas & Sutlej, but its marks were found in coastal Gujarat & Rajasthan.
Because of this, this civilization began to be called by name of Harappan civilization.
In Harappa, remains of this civilization were first met.
Mohanjodaro, Kalibanga, Lothal, Dholavira, Rakhigadi & Harappa were its main centers.
It is considered world՚s oldest & most prosperous civilization.
People fleeing these valleys went towards Ganga-Yamuna valley & went to Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Vindhyachal & Gujarat & it ceased to exist.
