The annual India-China military exercise would resume, noting that the relationship between the two countries which had turned “sour” after the Doklam stand-off was now improving. The information was shared by the Army Chief.

  • The “bonhomie” between the two forces was back.


  • The border personnel of India and China were locked in a 73-day standoff last year in Doklam.

  • The disengagement of forces took place in August last year, after hectic parleys between the two countries.

  • The high-ranking visits between the two sides continued after the Doklam face-off ended in August last year.

  • In December, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited India to attend the RIC (Russia India China) Foreign Ministers meeting.

What Was Doklam Standoff?

  • The 2017 China India border standoff or Doklam standoff refers to the military border standoff between the Indian armed forces and the People’s Liberation Army of China over Chinese construction of a road in Doklam, known as Donglang, or Donglang Caochang

  • On 16 June 2017 Chinese troops with construction vehicles and road-building equipment began extending an existing road southward in Doklam, a territory which is claimed by both China as well as India’s ally Bhutan.

  • On 18 June 2017, around 270 Indian troops, with weapons and two bulldozers, entered Doklam to stop the Chinese troops from constructing the road

  • On 28 August, both India and China announced that they had withdrawn all their troops from the face-off site in Doklam.

  • Bonhomie is a noun meaning pleasant, friendly, good-natured manner; an affable and approachable disposition; good-heartedness.
