Hinduja Group’s flagship company Ashok Leyland has launched first Made in India electric bus.  This bus is non-polluting and has zero-emissions. Bus launched in lines with National Electric Mobility Plan. The objective is 20 percent penetration of eco-friendly vehicles by 2020.

  • Subsidy provided by the Central government’s FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric) Vehicles scheme.
  • These new buses is planned to be used in heritage sites, tarmacs, rural areas, metro stations, hill stations, IT firms and educational institutions.
  • State Transport can use them for environment friendly and mass public transportation.
  • Control air pollution with zero tailpipe emissions and lower noise pollution.

  • Bus will be offered on multiple platforms and have seating capacity of 35 to a maximum of 65.
  • Can travel up to 120 km on a single recharge under standard test conditions.
  • Integrated with a fire detection and suppression system.
  • Costs between Rs 1.50 crore to Rs 3.50 crore.
  • Can be manufactured in all the 7 manufacturing facilities owned by the company.
  • Currently, manufactured in Alwar (Rajasthan) and Tamil Nadu.
  • Built on mass-market platform providing minimal operational and maintenance costs.
  • Support the government initiatives of reducing fuel import bill.

  • NEMMP 2020 is one of most aspiring initiatives undertaken by Central Government.
  • Set a target to achieve 6-7 million sales of hybrid and electric vehicles year on year from 2020 onward.
