On 67th Republic Day parade of 26th January 2016, President of France Francois Hollande will be the Chief Guest. After the French President accepted the invitation to witness Republic Day celebration as chief guest Union Ministry External Affairs (MEA) has announced it.

From France Mr. Francois Hollande would be the 5th highest notable to be Chief Guest of Indian Republic Day parade.

  • Earlier Prime Minister Jacques Chirac has attended Republic Day in 1976
  • President Valery Giscard d’Estaing in 1980
  • President Jacques Chirac in 1998
  • President Nicolas Sarkozy in 2008

With this invite, France has become highest guest honor on Indian Republic Day for the fifth time.

Bhutan has visited India on Republic Day for the four times, and Mauritius, Russia for three times each.
