The Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) announced the Prime Minister’s Awards for outstanding contribution in Promotion and Development of Yoga.

The Screening Committee (for preliminary evaluation) and Evaluation Committee (Jury) were constituted to ensure a transparent process is followed in finalizing the awards. Open advertisements were issued for inviting nominations.

The Prime Minister of India had announced institution of awards for promotion and development of Yoga In 2016, at Chandigarh.

Selection Procedure and Award Recipients

  • Altogether 79 nominations were received under different categories.

  • A screening committee under AYUSH secretary, drew up a shortlist from 79 applications.

  • The jury, chaired by Cabinet Secretary recommended the awards to final recipients.

  • The Award included Trophy, Certificate and Cash Prize of Rs. 25 lakh each.

  • Swami Rajarshi Muni of Life Mission, Gujarat: He received award under National Category. He is a practicing Yogi from Limbdi, Gujarat and also the Chairman of Gujarat’s Lakulish Yoga University.

  • Antonietta Rozzi of Italy: She got the award under International Individual Category. She possessed more than 42 years of experience in Yoga and is also a practicing Yoga Teacher from Lerici, Italy.

  • Bihar School of Yoga, Munger received award under National Organisational category. The school is known for varieties of Yoga techniques and was founded in 1964 by Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati.

  • Japan Yoga Niketan of Japan belonging to Organisation Category –International. It has been a torch bearer for Yoga in Japan since its establishment in 1980. The Yoga Institute runs many high quality Yoga training and therapy courses.
