At least 10,000 new jobs will be created w/implementation of Centre’s ambitious Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM). It aims to provide cover of Rs. 5 lakh per family annually to 10 cr. poor families, according to government official.

Ayushman Mitra

  • Around 1 lakh Ayushman Mitras will be deployed at both private & govt. hospitals under scheme to assist patients coming to health facilities to avail packages under mission.
  • Health Ministry has signed pact w/Skill Development Ministry for recruitment of 1 lakh ‘Ayushman Mitras’.
  • Each empanelled hospital will have ‘Ayushman Mitra’ to assist patients & will coordinate w/beneficiaries & hospital. They will run help desk, check documents to verify eligibility & enrolment to scheme.

Empaneling Public & Private Hospitals

  • Union health ministry has launched formal process to empanel public & private hospitals to achieve universal health coverage under programme & as many as 20,000 private & govt. hospitals are linked under scheme.

  • Centers is simultaneously carrying out beneficiary identification & under process, 80 % of beneficiaries, based on Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data in rural & more than 60 % in urban areas, are identified.

  • NABH is not mandatory for hospitals to get empaneled under scheme.

  • Basic empanelment criteria allow empanelment of hospital w/min. of 10 beds, w/flexibility provided to states to further relax this if required.

Background on AB-NHPM

  • AB-NHPM was touted as ‘world’s largest government-funded healthcare scheme’.

  • All beneficiaries will be given letters having QR codes which will be scanned & demographic authentication conducted for identification & to verify his or her eligibility to avail benefits under scheme.
