  • The theme for this year’s conclave in BIRAC is BIRAC Bio-Innovations: Propelling the Bio-economy- bringing together nearly 300 innovators and startups, scientists, policy makers, and national and international organisations.

What is Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC)?

  • Public sector undertaking of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology

  • Non- profit public sector enterprise, set up by Department of Biotechnology (DBT) to empower the emerging biotech industry undertake strategic research and innovation.

Initiates of BIRAC

  • Provides industry-academia interface and implements mandate through a wide range of impact initiatives:

  • Providing access to risk capital through targeted funding

  • Technology transfer

  • IP management and handholding schemes

  • Bring innovation excellence to Indian biotech firms making them globally competitive. /

  • Promote schemes, networks and platforms to bridge gap between industry-academia research

  • Facilitate novel, high quality and cost-effective affordable technologies.

  • Innovation fair to showcase up and coming inventions and showcase the potential for scale-up of these innovations to relevant stakeholders and decision-makers.

BIRAC Conclave on Bio-Innovations

  • Conclave was host to a bio-innovation fair and an innovation market place

  • Featured a number of key panel discussions including “The Startup Conversation: Gaps, Opportunities and the Way Forward” featuring venture capitalists and angel investors.

  • Bio-innovation fair hosted 65 innovations supported by DBT and BIRAC.
